Our commitment to quality preserves the integrity of the Timken brand, not to mention the confidence we’ve built with our customers. That’s why we invest millions of dollars each year in R&D, training and process improvement – to ensure that customers receive consistent quality from Timken products, no matter where in the world they were manufactured.
We’ve taken great care to develop our Timken Worldwide Quality standards, which are executed without exception in every plant that produces Timken products. But in addition to setting our own standards, we’ve also helped define quality in the industry by creating the standards for the American Bearing Manufacturing Association (ABMA) and contributing to the standards set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Our Measurement of Quality
All Timken production facilities throughout the world are registered to the quality system standard for the industries they serve.
Quality is the cornerstone of Timken’s reputation. The Timken Quality Management System (TQMS) reinforces our quality core value through targeted, disciplined best practices for all levels of the organization, including both manufacturing and service processes. TQMS works by protecting the Timken brand and setting clear guidelines for what are acceptable and exceptional levels of quality standards for our associates, customers and suppliers.
Based on ISO9000, TQMS goes beyond and incorporates the most demanding requirements of our customers and best practices found both inside and outside of Timken. Its 21 modular elements form a common framework for how Timken associates achieve and measure quality. Each module is reviewed annually for continuous improvement, resulting in a constant increase in the minimum expectation of quality performance, with the goal of providing consistent quality, country to country.
Timken's Foundation of Quality
All Timken production facilities throughout the world are registered to the quality system standard for the industries they serve. Additionally, all Timken facilities are recognized to the ISO 9001 standard.
Since its founding in 1899, The Timken Company has always focused on the need to produce quality products and services. That commitment was best expressed by Henry Timken himself in his advice to his sons on how to operate the enterprise he had founded.
“To be successful, you must be independent. If you want to lead in any line, you must bring to it independence of thought, unfailing industry, aggression, and indomitable purpose. If you have an idea which you think is right, push it to a finish. Don’t let anyone else influence you against it. If we all thought the same way, there would be no progress. But above all, don’t set your name to anything you will ever have cause to be ashamed of.”
That foundation of quality continues today and has been incorporated into our quality policy, which is:
“Quality is the cornerstone of our reputation and is central to the ability of each business to achieve its mission. Every associate understands the importance of the Timken brand, consistently produces and delivers what we promise, and takes responsibility for decisions that impact quality.”
